I need another laptop

Hello old friends. Happy New Year. Looking to get husband laptop; son loves his Dell 2200 inspiron wyd hooked me into last November. Happened to read that it was a Consumer Reports "best buy." Thanks! I don't need this laptop until mid-February, so I can wait around for a "good deal." IT guy at work here highly recommends Dells or HP. I look forward to hearing from you.

I am very happy to hear how much your son is enjoying his new Dell laptop!

I would also recommend going with another Dell or HP. Both have sales going on now too. Do you have a price range you want to be in. Currently HP has a laptop for $549 shipped After Rebate with a free printer. It has really nice specs too.

(It's for a Compaq.. but HP and Compaq are the same now as they merged last year)

Hello Deal Guy, and once again, thanks for your most able help. Although husband can't figure out to use "send/receive" button on his outlook, I want to get him a nice laptop and introduce him to wireless. Perhaps something to plug into future new TV, wireless, and to transfer 8 mm camcorder stuff onto disk. I mean, he doesn't work for NASA or anything, so it doesn't have to have everything! Nice, wide screen (son's 15" Dell is nice). My brother-in-law suggested this - Acer Laptop at CompUSA

but IT guy at work likes Dell & HP. But this Acer has what I want. Waiting to hear from the "help me gang."

That's the one, Deal Guy. The few people I have talked to think it is a great deal. However, how come our IT guys at work INSIST on Dells or HPs? The 2 year warranty on this Compusa Acer is $100. You have the last word - a good deal, Mr. Deal Guy? All the best.

As a former IT director, I understand why they push Dell and HP so much as an IT professional. Here's why. Dell and HP offer incredible support to business customers. I also when using them for business would almost always go with Dell because of their incredible customer service. However, when it comes to home users... all of the companies have about the same support...

Personally, I am happy with Acer. I have used them before and would be confident in recommending them to someone, especially with as good as a deal as this.

The only thing now is it is only available for In-store pick-up. If you want to do that, you can use the link I gave you and you can select in-store pick-up. Otherwise I can find you another deal. There are some great coupons for Dells.

I would also consider Sony Vaio computers. My uncle works with Dells at his job and has lots of problems with them. He says the reason there cheaper is because there made of cheap parts. My sister has a $500 dell one last year and went threw about 5 modems and other parts now and she said she wished she got something else. I have a compaq labtop and there alright, but once again they have cheasy parts like plastic hinges that crack and have to buy new ones.

Interesting.. because I used to handle a 2 million PC/laptop budget. We did about 80% Dell products with a return rate of about 2%. As for using cheap parts that is totally incorrect, Dell tends to use higher end parts in their systems compared to the other major manufacturers. I would say, just because your sister had a bad experience with a laptop, you should look at the bigget picture before passing judgement. I could say the same about Compaq based on a single experience, or look at the bigger picture.

Well she didnt send it back and she didnt have the plan so she called dell and they told her to get new modems and a processor once because it wouldnt work or dial up. I wouldnt say Compaqs are great either because Ive send it in 3 times because it wouldnt turn on.
