Need deal on DIGITAL CAMCORDER

Eventuallly I will get one of the CANON Prosumer digital camcorders that run $2000 and up - but for now I want to find a good deal on something cheaper -
Would like to find something under $500 - maybe a little more if the features are all there and great value. It is hard to find a decent quality digi-camcorder for that price- so I really want to get one that is rated pretty high in Magazine reviews or CONSUMER REPORTS or somthing like that.
I know that is kind of a tall order- so I would appreciate any info on good CAMCORDER DEALS to be posted on this thread. I can sort thru and see what might work. I am a bit picky on quality and features- but I may go for something on the cheap side for now if I find an exeptionally good value and at least pretty good image quality. I saw a few good deals on this site already - but still want to look around and see what pops up between now and end of year with all the PRE and POST CHRISTMAS DEALS

If anyone has any info on what camcorders are rated the best in the lower price ranges (under $600 approx) please post. I went to the CONSUMER REPORTS website but dont have a "subscription" so could not find any info there- So if anybody has that info (or any other top rated camcorders in the reviews) please post.
