Default Transfer 8 mm to DVD

Hello fellow bargain hunters. I've received immensed help from this site and I want to thank you very much. I'm not too savvy when it comes to high-tech things - just give me the dang computer and I'll create the finished product. What is out there so that I may copy at least 100 8mm camcorder tapes onto a DVD. Is it done with the television or, seeing as Santa is bringing a Dell 2200 Inspiron laptop, is there a gizmo that can be used with that computer? Next query - I've been noticing those webcam accessories for computers. What is available to accommodate this Dell 2200? Can another person see/hear you even if he doesn't have a webcam? Of course - to uby on line, please. Hey, thanks everyone.

I will get you a deal on the web cam. Yes, someone can see and hear you, even if they don't have a webcam.

I am also looking into transferring the 8mm to dvd. I believe you need a special external device. I remember seeing a few. I will post those soon too as I find them.

I've been looking around since I wrote, Dealguy, and saw this software by Pinnicle - either "Dazzle" or "Studio MovieBox DV Version 9" or Version 10. Pretty interesting stuff. But I'll wait to hear from you. Would prefer not to have some external thingie, but whatever you think.

Default VIDEO CAPTURE - ANALOG TO DIGITAL CONVERSION

There are a host of gadgets to accomplish this task. DAZZLE is one of the reasonable ones - around $50 I believe - might have been a promotion - but it is in that range. Frys has a pretty good selection of all kinds of gadgets to do this kind of thing- and COMPUSA has a fair amount too. I have a couple of them myself- which I have not even installed yet. Some are PCI cards- which you can install on a DESKTOP. But I think some are also USB- which is more versatile and can be used on a laptop or desktop.

Basically you need an ANALOG TO DIGITAL CONVERTOR. or VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE - I have a product by AVERMEDIA called DVD EZmaker. It uses a PCI card and is for desktops. It works with just about any CAMCORDER - DVD- MIni DV VCR, 8mm , etc. It has editing funtions - DIRECT TO DISC recording and lots more. Reg price is $29.99 - I got it for about $10 after rebate- and I see them all the time with rebates.
I have another VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE by AVERMEDIA called AVerTV 007 FM PLUS - It captures video - and has a TV and FM tuner to pick up broadcast signals or CABLE.

I have a couple more buried in all my stuff I think . Will post if I run across them.
I think the one you posted on was a bit of overkill- I think it has more features than you need- but look closely- maybe there is something you really like on their or maybe quality or other benefits make it worthwhile if that is what you are looking for.
WHen I see some on sale I will let you know by posting here

Default USB 2.0 Video Capture

I have another product made by V-stream called X-pert DVD MAKER- It is very small and has cables included. It transfers video from multiple sources (camcorders in several formats Mini DV, 8mm, VHS etc -works with S-Video or RCA jacks from VCR) There is an audio input also-
The unit hooks to computer with USB 2.0- you can edit material and record to DVD. Supports MPEG 4 (or 2 & 1)- fully compatible with DESKTOP or LAPTOP

Reg price is $49.95 - I got a $30 rebate so I paid $20 - I like the portability and USB 2.0 connections - Plus the only one I have I can use with laptop.

I havent tried it yet either - Just got it recently and just got laptop recently too.

Thanks, Master!!!! I will print these out and review them when I have time today. Can't stand it when work gets in the way!! I really appreciate the "over and above" you did on this. There will be a little extra in your envelope this week!!! I have to check if my Dell Inspiron 2200 will accommodate any software you recommend.

Default Audio Converter- ANALOG to DIGITAL

I was thinking the same when I read the description- There is some talk about VIDEO in the last paragraph- but it is not really what you are lookin for I dont think - too limited in scope.
QUOTE To further increase connection flexibility, the Analog to Digital Converter also converts Composite Video to S-Video and vice versa to high picture quality, exceptional sharpness and vivid color by its unique circuit design. END QUOTE

For your LAPTOP only the USB ITEM will work (theoretically I must add since I have not tried it yet- but I think it will be ok)
THere is no PCI CARD SLOT to accomodate the other stuff. Hope you find what you need. IF you have a FRY's electronics near you - you could look a little better at what is available there - they have extensive selection. COMPUSA has a fair selection - not near as extensive.
