Delivered groceries Im from the Atlanta area and we had a start up company that pursued the grocery delivery business in a big way and failed miserably as did Publix Supermarkets with their efforts. My mother lived in Jersey City NJ and always had her groceries delivered and I would suspect that in 30 years she never set foot in a grocery store nor would she have wanted to. She knew the brands she wanted, had a clerk she trusted and delivery kids she liked and so their was no problem. In Atlanta, we are used to holding, touching, smelling and reading every item and so it was hard to give up that freedom. I believe that it only works in geographic areas where the market is used to the process and its usually the high density urban environments where people do not have time nor the availability of super markets like we do in suburban areas. |
