I started, well it is almost 30 years now... by participating in the walk-a-thons in NYC. My grandmother has been a part of ucp for like ever

My mother for over 40 years. She started by volunteering and she actually now has a paid position with UCP in NY. Over the years it has been a blessing to assist in any way I can with UCP. Whether it be time for the telethons, walk-athons, or time at the UCP center, it has been my honor and privledge to help. I have been way more blessed by the people at UCP than I have to them in my opinion. I pray that one day, they will be able to really reduce the amount of cases of CP. As I am sure you know (but I will put it in for those who don't) that Cerebral Palsy is not a birth defect, but a condition that occurs either before, during or after birth. It is brought on by a lack of oxygen to the brain. As doctors receive better training and technology gets better and better, these cases have been reduced and hopefully one day will be brought as close to zero as possible. But in the meantime, I am glad that UCP is able to make life better for those stricken with this condition, through the many various and great programs they offer. For those who wish to learn more or to make a donation, please visit
