Great tips, Kim. One more that's worked for my wife and me is to create a list of birthdays and other gift-giving occasions. This would obviously include family and close friends, but don't forget the birthday parties that your kids will be invited to, wedding receptions, etc. During the year, as you find great deals (on this site!), you'll be able to buy when the price is right. Gift shopping has been much easier for us, as we're not rushing to buy gifts at the last moment, often out of desperation. Also, when there are exceptional sales (especially on toys), we stock up even without a specific person in mind. That way, when our kids get invited to "surprise" parties, we're ready with a great gift already purchased.
